Revisiting the Armenian Question
Delegates from across Europe and the Ottoman Empire have gathered at the 1878 Congress of Berlin, and a subject expected to be of intense debate is the Armenian Question. The Armenians, Christians historically living throughout the territory of the Ottoman Empire for thousands of years, are of great concern to the empire and the European powers. Often being used as a way for Europe to exert influence in the Middle East under the guise of Christian solidarity and coming under worsening conditions under the empire’s control, the situation for the Armenians is becoming increasingly vital to address.
As delegates representing the range of actors with a stake in the issue, you will negotiate a solution to the growing tension. Your choices will determine the dominant powers in and create a new map of the Middle East, as well as of course determining the fate of the Armenian people.
